Grand Celebration Ship Review

ms grand celebration cruise

The MS Tropicale was a cruise ship that entered service in 1982, and was one of the pioneering cruise ships in the modernization of the cruise industry. The Tropicale was Carnival Cruises Line's first newly built ship, initially operating mainly in the Mexican Rivera and the Caribbean. Bahamas Paradise might not offer a cruise line loyalty program, but it does have a rewards system for avid gamblers.

Only 12 passenger staterooms have balconies and these are in the Suite categories. MS Grand Celebration itinerary program was based on 2-night / 3-day Bahamas cruises leaving roundtrip from Palm Beach (Riviera Beach) Florida USA. The regularly scheduled Florida to Bahamas cruises were initially to Freeport and later to Nassau. The vessel was the only one at the Riviera Beach port, and also the largest ever homeported there. The Celebration (also known as Grand Celebration) was a cruise ship originally built for Carnival Cruise Line. She was the last of three ships to be built in Carnival's Holiday Class of cruise ships.

Start the day with a hearty breakfast and cap it off with desserts so delightful, that we could only call them "Sweet Endings." Sadly (due to the Coronavirus crisis), in January 2021, the 34-year-old vessel was beached at Alang India and soon scrapped. The vessel ("MS Celebration"/ aka "Carnival Celebration") was launched on August 9, 1986, delivered to CCL-Carnival Cruise Lines (shipowner) in February 1987 and started its Inaugural Cruise on March 14, 1987. Wine tastings kick off in the afternoon, as do steel drum band performances and pool parties.

In September 2018, the company signed a partnership deal with Fit Bodies Inc, providing passengers aged 16 and older with free workout classes (Zumba, Yoga, and fitness) led by certified instructors. The new program was introduced on Grand Celebration (Sept 2018) and on Grand Classica (since January 2019). The cruise line began operation in March 2009 with the Bahamas Celebration, which was formerly a cruise ferry, built in 1981 and converted to a cruise ship in 2008. Before being sold to the scrappers, the 1,800-guest ship also sailed for two other cruise lines. Some (family staterooms) accommodate up to 4 passengers via Pullman / rollaway beds.

NEW "Cruise and Stay" packages

Port commissioners signed the agreement with the new shipowner (Bahamas Paradise Cruise Line) on December 15, 2016. With LOA length 223 m (733 ft), MS Grand Celebration is the max size the Palm Beach port can handle. Bahamas Paradise Cruise Line weddings are package deals requiring at least 8 booked staterooms (at double occupancy) accommodating 16 full-paying passengers. In addition to the unlimited Florida-Bahamas roundtrip voyages, Ultimate Paradise Pass' onboard perks include welcome amenities, behind-the-scenes access, and exclusive sneak peeks of new activities (on select voyages). Pass holders can additionally book shore excursions, upgrades, and packages at a 10% discount.

However, these plans were canceled and both vessels remained out of service, and later Grand Celebration was scrapped. Palm Beach port's cruise terminal is an exclusive facility for Bahamas Paradise Cruise Line ships only. It offers valet parking priced lower in comparison to other Florida cruise ports. The company's parking attendants meet passengers upon arrival at the terminal.

The vessel left Freeport Bahamas on November 15, allegedly heading to India's Alang Shipbreaking Yard (world's largest), with estimated arrival on January 3. MS Grand Celebration cruise ship was constructed in Malmo Sweden (by Saab Kockums AB) for CCL-Carnival Cruise Lines. Carnival Celebration: What guests need to know about the new ship

celebration carnival cruise

From one day to the next you’ll find new stuff on the menu — so make sure to come back and see what surprising specialties are ready to delight you for breakfast, lunch or dinner. Carnival Celebration has an excellent gym with a line up of LifeFitness cardio machines (treadmills and ellipticals) that face the sea through full-length windows on port Deck 6. These machines can be programmed for virtual “runs” in a wide range of settings, from the rocky trails of British Columbia to the shores of Maui. There are also weight machines and free weights, as well as a stretching area and a spinning room. Free and for-fee classes are available here at various times of day. Fellow guests told me the gym can get rather crowded during the peak morning hours.

Featuring classic and contemporary Latin music, this production fell short when compared to the great entertainment offerings on other cruise lines. Overall the crew and officers aboard the Carnival Celebration were attentive and upbeat. During this cruise, we had the privilege of meeting the Captain of the ship and his officers, shop managers, and more. Everyone is very passionate and professional about offering guests a unique, safe, and enjoyable vacation experience onboard. On embarkation day, we boarded the new Carnival Celebration at Carnival Cruise Line’s newly remodeled Terminal F at Port Miami.

Here, the Bolt roller coaster, the second in the fleet, zooms over the mini-golf course and around the water park and ship's funnel. A packed basketball course and an elevated ropes course keep the fun going; foosball, ping pong and bean bag toss offer an easier form of competition. The new travel-inspired neighborhood The Gateway on decks 6 and 7 midship is most noticeable for its LED "windows" that display scenes from countries around the world, depending on the evening's theme. The new train station-inspired Latitudes Bar and returning Emeril's Bistro 1397 anchor this area, with the popular pharmacy-themed Alchemy Bar above.

These comfy rooms with a view let you take in the scenery as you sail toward your beautiful destinations. But the views aren’t all that matters here — Ocean View staterooms on Carnival Celebration® are a little bit bigger than Interior rooms and most feature a supremely loungeable couch for those times when neither lying nor standing will do. Carnival Celebration® wouldn’t be complete without a place for you to settle in and recharge after a long day’s fun. The Grand Celebration was sold for scrap in 2020 with her sister ship, MS Holiday, precipitated in part by the COVID-19 pandemic.[1][2] A third sister ship, the MS Jubilee, was last operated by HNA Tourism. Another key evening space was the Lido Beach Pool area, which hosts the Carnival Seaside Theater for movie screenings under the stars or the once per week Evolution Party, a wild, glow stick-wielding bash, hosted by the cruise director. There are actually two main show spaces on Carnival Celebration, Celebration Central and the Grand Spectrum Theater.

If you plan to take a Carnival cruise, download the Carnival HUB App before boarding your ship. It is loaded with features that will make your cruise more enjoyable. This is a must to keep up with the daily activities, dining reservations, and available dining options throughout your cruise. Now that everything is done on the app, you must utilize it during your next cruise. Plus, standbys such as the Piano Bar 88 and Punchliner Comedy Club will keep everyone entertained in familiar late-night spaces.

Major Differences Between Royal Caribbean and Carnival Cruise Line

While we’ve cruised many times on other cruise lines, we hadn’t tried Carnival until this year. Did you enjoy our Carnival Celebration cruise ship scorecard review? Do you have plans to sail on this new Carnival Cruise Line ship? Drop us an anchor below with your latest Carnival cruise reviews.

Construction on Second Chinese-Built Cruise Ship Well Underway

Another bright spot of this Carnival Celebration cruise ship review was the crew and the fantastic service we received throughout the entire week. From the sports deck activities, to Family Feud and Deal or No Deal, to the comedy shows, there was never a dull moment during our sailing. The signature entertainment was fair when compared to other contemporary cruise lines. The productions were certainly not Broadway-caliber shows like NCL or Royal Caribbean. We did like the shows that occurred in Celebration Central more than those in the main theater; though, it’s difficult to find a good viewing spot. While the meals here were better than the main dining room, neither of them were at the caliber of a specialty restaurant on other cruise lines.

Is Carnival Celebration Family Friendly?

Comparing the main dining room service to Royal Carribean, we noticed a few other negatives on the Celebration that didn’t give it the higher end restaurant feel. Royal Caribbean’s largest ships are almost 30% larger than the Celebration but hold the same number of passengers at max capacity. Surprisingly, our balcony felt much larger than the advertised size. It might have been due to our location, as Deck 10 includes additional rail space when compared to the decks above it.

Yet, it doesn’t even compare to specialty venues like Onda on NCL or Giovanni’s Italian Kitchen on Royal Caribbean. Currently, Carnival Cruise Line has broadened the options for complimentary dining on its Excel Class ships. On our sailing, both Chibang and Cucina del Capitano were complimentary. Paul and Reggie seemed to rotate between the Deck 6 Latitudes Bar and Deck 6 Golden Jubilee Bar, as did the Quora String Trio. Other organized activities included Bingo and game shows like Majority Rules, Walk the Plank, and even Flip Cup.

The service and overall experience were very lovely and a great value overall. We've also gotten word that this coaster is currently fully constructed and undergoing test runs on land before being transferred and installed onboard Carnival Celebration. "While similar to Mardi Gras with a plethora of options for dining, entertainment and relaxation, Celebration will have her own personality, one that celebrates all things Carnival, intertwining where we have been with where we are going." Carnival Celebration boasts five swimming pools and five hot tubs. Space Cruisers is a brand-new program offered in partnership with the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex. Eventually, it’ll roll out to other Carnival ships but, for now, you can only find it here, on Carnival Celebration.

Thankfully, that demeanor changes once you hit Carnival’s for-fee dining options; our meals in Bonsai Sushi and Bonsai Teppanyaki were above reproach in terms of service. Bars, lounges and cabin stewards all seemed personable and friendly, for the most part. But Carnival’s complimentary dining options came with an unwanted side-order of visible hostility. Carnival Celebration also boasts a much-expanded Bonsai Teppanyaki venue just next to Bonsai Sushi.

Celebration's new Grand Celebration zone will be responsible for setting guests' expectations as soon as they step foot onto the ship. Embarkation leads directly into the newly designed atrium space rising from Deck 6 up to Deck 8. Carnival Celebration will be the second vessel in the line's Excel class of ships, preceded by Mardi Gras which in 2021. But don't expect this new ship to be a carbon copy of its sibling. The program is designed for those ages 2 to 11 and includes space-themed activities and fun STEM projects to add a little educational flair and fun to their cruising experience. You do, of course, have your standard kids’ venues aboard Carnival Celebration, which you’ve probably already been familiar with if your family has cruised on a Carnival ship in the past.

Carnival Celebration is an Excellence-class cruise ship, preceded by sister ship Mardi Gras, which debuted in the summer of 2021. A future Carnival Excellence-class ship is scheduled for 2023, Carnival Jubilee. This large ship ranks as the 11th largest in the world, with a gross tonnage of 183,521 GT and a length of 1,130 feet. There are 19 total decks and more than 2,600 staterooms, which can hold more than 5,000 passengers at double occupancy and up to 6,500 passengers at maximum capacity.

So if you're on an early sailing, my advice is to dine early or request tables half an hour to an hour before you want to eat. If you like to try out different restaurants for dinner, choose the flexible dining option so you get earlier access to Chibang! The area takes the place of the RedFrog Pub, a venue I've loved on other Carnival ships. The decor here is a little darker, but the expanded size and proximity to a pool, hot tubs and outdoor seating are a definite plus. As a professional traveler, it's not a huge surprise that one of my favorite public areas on the ship is the travel-themed The Gateway. The Latitudes Bar called my name with its seatbacks decorated with faux passport stamps and split-flap departure board signage.

Port Canaveral Cruise Port and Terminal Information

All the major car rental companies offer car rentals at the airport, as well as in the area surrounding Port Canaveral. Remove the hassle from air travel and give yourself the gift of flexibility, time and a thicker wallet with Princess EZair flights. We negotiate lower rates with the airlines, allow you to modify your flight up to 45 days prior with no penalty and protect you if your flight is late or canceled. Follow your cruise line boarding document's suggested time of arrival as local port security measures may not allow guests to arrive more than 30 minutes prior to their scheduled check-in time.

Port Canaveral Shuttle Service Price Comparison

Port's total economic output was USD 3,9 billion with around jobs supported (USD 1,3 billion in wages) including port workers (USD 0,7294 billion in wages). In January 2018 was approved the construction of a new multi-purpose cargo ship berth ("North Cargo Berth 8" / NCB8). By the project were also built a seawall (900 ft / 274 m) and a pier extension (100 ft / 31 m) with capacity to handle vessels with max LOA length 850 ft/259 m. At the new berth can be handled various heavy project cargoes (including aerospace). The USD 17,9 million berth construction contract was awarded to the Tampa-based company Orion Marine Group.

Things to do in Port Canaveral

There are 70,000 m2 (750,000 ft2) of covered freight storage capacity. In 2004 Port Canaveral handled 3,6 million tons (4M short tons) of cargo. It exports fresh citrus and bulk frozen citrus juice is stored in one of the biggest freezer warehouses in the state.

Hilton Garden Inn Orlando Airport

But perhaps no way of getting to the port is as convenient as an Orlando hotel near the airport with a cruise shuttle. As a way of winning your business, many spots near the airport offer a free shuttle to their hotel after you arrive from your flight. And then after your stay, they can help you with a shuttle ride to Port Canaveral (for a fee). If you are flying into Orlando for a cruise from Port Canaveral, then you are going to need to figure out how to get to your ship. The port is about 45 minutes away from the Orlando International Airport (MCO), which is the closest major airport to the cruise terminals. Please pay to park at your cruise terminal's designated parking area and simply take a short walk to your ship; no need for shuttles.

Wheelchair and Accessibility at Port Canaveral

Hampton Inn & Suites Orlando Airport @ Gateway VillageHampton Inn seems to universally earn great reviews from guests, and this edition is no different, earning a rating of 4.5 out of 5. It’s among the closest hotels to the airport, and should only take you five minutes to get there with the free airport shuttle. Of course you get all the goodies like free wi-fi and breakfast as well. Then, the shuttle companies listed earlier can pick you up at the hotel and get you to the ship.

Transfers between the Orlando Airport and Port Canaveral for as low as $29.99 per person.

Jetty Park is located at the east end of the port, near the Southside terminals. It has an oceanfront beach with year-round lifeguards, a snack bar, campground, children's playground, a bait-and-tackle shop and a lighted 1,000-foot-long fishing pier. In addition, the Cove area at Port Canaveral offers waterfront dining, and Cove Marketplace offers shopping. CT10The last cruise terminal on the western side of the port is CT10, which serves Norwegian ships and MSC.

Convenient Port Canaveral “Park & Cruise” Hotels

Passenger and luggage drop off is available in front of the terminals. There are limited wheelchairs available for passenger assistance. If you require a wheelchair throughout the duration of your cruise, we recommend that you contact your cruise line for wheelchair rentals and further assistance. There are limited services on the Port Canaveral property, but a few chain eateries may be found on Astronaut Boulevard in Cape Canaveral, which is less than a 10-minute drive from the terminals. Visitors will also find last-minute shopping and convenience stores in downtown Cape Canaveral. If you're flying into Orlando with time to spare, a nice option is to rent a car there, use it to explore the area around the Cape then return it at the port before your cruise.

In the case of Orlando, Florida, which is a popular departure point for many cruise lines, you have several options to choose from. Whether you prefer convenience, affordability, or flexibility, there is a transportation option that will suit your needs. With a new terminal recently constructed to serve Carnival’s largest ship (Mardi Gras), the capacity of Port Canaveral simply keeps increasing. All told, each year sees hundreds of cruise ship departures from the port. That’s not to mention the ships that dock here during their cruises to allow passengers to visit nearby Orlando. Port Canaveral's cruise terminals serve several major cruise shipping companies.

Speaking of prices, it is important to know that rideshare pricing will vary depending on demand at the time. The advantage is that this “self debarkation” group is the first group allowed off the ship. But since so many people choose the option, it can still be some time before you get off the vessel. The second method is the classic boarding window, though it seems fewer ships use this method now.

Gastrointestinal illness/Norovirus affects 28 passengers on Silversea's ship Silver Nova

There are also fantastic events, like the Wilton Manors Halloween Experience and the Hollywood Beach Latin Festival in August. Although cruises depart Fort Lauderdale throughout the year, summer and fall months are most prone to rain. Besides great weather, spring offers plenty to do in Fort Lauderdale and South Florida. It is the start of the festival season when the region hosts the Fort Lauderdale Air Show, Las Olas Art Fair, Tortuga Music Festival and more.

Some 3.86 million cruisers passed through Port Everglades in 2018. Several off-site private parking lots are available near the Port Everglades Fort Lauderdale cruise port. In addition, several Fort Lauderdale hotels offer Park and Fly packages that allow you to leave your car for the duration of your cruise. Port Everglades offers two parking garages and two surface lots. The Palm Parking Garage services Terminals 19, 21, 25, 26 and 29. Shuttle service is provided between the Palm Parking Garage and Terminal 29.

Just be ready as you approach the checkpoint at the entrance to the port to make the line go faster. If you’re driving into Fort Lauderdale to cruise, then you’re going to need a spot to park your car. Fortunately there’s an entire industry surrounding cruise parking in Fort Lauderdale. We have all your options on our Port Everglades cruise parking page here. Below, we have general information regarding your parking options. Given the location of the port, getting there is a breeze, especially if you are flying in.

We will say that we’ve caught flights considerably earlier, however. Fort Lauderdale Water TaxiThis area is unique due to the number of canals and waterways that run inland. In fact, there are so many that water taxis run circuits around Fort Lauderdale. For $40 a person, you can hop on and hop off as you please as you get a chance to see huge houses, even larger yachts, and learn about the area. It’s a great way to get a tour of the city in a memorable way. SecurityCruise security is somewhat similar to that of an airport, but much less stressful.

Paul Maison de Qualite and SushiGami are two of our favorites. These hotels are also less than 10 minutes from the port but are a great value -- on both points and in cash -- most nights of the year. Be sure to price out both the cash and points price to find the best value.

STREET SCENE

Finally, you can bring a companion along for free (actually, just the cost of the ticket's taxes) if you have the Southwest Companion Pass. In addition to the cruise lines that make Port Everglades home, the fast ferry Balearia Caribbean transports passengers from Fort Lauderdale to Grand Bahama Island. Adjacent to the port area is 17th Street, offering convenient shopping if you are staying close to Port Everglades or if you want to make a last-minute shopping trip. Along with several hotels, 17th Street has several pharmacies, banks, restaurants, cafes and shops between Federal Highway and the Seventeenth Street Causeway Bridge. The Palm Parking Garage hosts 1,966 spaces serving terminals 19, 21, 25, 26 and 29.

Cruise Terminal 2

You can get to Port Everglades by taxi from anywhere in the Fort Lauderdale area, including the airport. Miami International is also 27 miles south of Port Everglades, while Palm Beach International Airport is 50 miles to the north. Located close to shops and restaurants, the Northport entrance is found at the 17th Street Causeway at Eisenhower Boulevard.

Parking is available at the Midport Garage (also known as the Palm Garage), right across the street from the cruise terminal. It’s the main Royal Caribbean terminal and serves some of the largest ships in the cruise line’s fleet (Oasis-class vessels). As with all the terminals, there are parking options right nearby. This site focuses on small-format cruises and ship-within-a-ship concepts on large cruise ships, including special cruise experiences you can enjoy during your next vacation.

Hourly and daily parking are available at all parking garages and surface lots, with maximum daily rates set at $20 or $25 for over-sized vehicles (rates current as of December 2023). Parking is $4 for up to an hour and $8 for up to 5 hours, with $1 charged per hour for each additional hour up to the daily maximum. Nationwide trains operated by Amtrak also stop at Hollywood and Fort Lauderdale stations. If arriving by train, you can travel to the port area by taxi or ridesharing services. Port Everglades is just a 10-minute drive from Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport.

Parking at the PortBy far the easiest and most convenient spot to park is at the port. Port Everglades has multiple parking facilities near the cruise terminals, giving you the ability to park right at your cruise ship. That means you can drive and arrive when you want, and then head home the second you get off the ship. Given the number of parking spots at the port, you don’t have to reserve a spot ahead of time. Hotel ShuttlesIf you plan to stay in a hotel the night before your cruise, then look for a hotel that offers a shuttle to the cruise port. While some hotels offer rides for free, usually you will pay a nominal fee for the service.

RCG (which also owns Celebrity Cruises) homeported Celebrity Edge here, starting turnaround operations in 2018 (on December 1st). The new T25 terminal (in Hollywood FL) was officially inaugurated with the ship's arrival (on November 20th). The grand ceremony was attended by Richard Fain (RCG's President and CEO) and Lisa Lutoff-Perlo (Celebrity's President and CEO), plus key cruise brand executives and local officials. Terminal 25 was redesigned and rebranded by Celebrity Cruises. For Terminal 25's new design was contracted the company "Bermello Ajamil and Partners".

Your time with an agent will only take a few minutes, and then you’ll be ready to start your cruise. Driving to Port EvergladesIf you are already in South Florida, then you can simply drive to the port. Unlock the Secrets: Nighttime Rituals for Luscious Long Hair

Unlock the Secrets: Nighttime Rituals for Luscious Long Hair

Taking care of long hair at night is important to prevent tangles, breakage, and other damage. There are many different things you can do to protect your hair while you sleep, such as braiding it, putting it in a bun, or using a silk pillowcase.

One of the most important things you can do for your long hair is to brush it before bed. This will help to remove any tangles or knots that could cause damage during the night. You should also avoid sleeping with your hair wet, as this can make it more prone to breakage. If you must wash your hair before bed, make sure to dry it completely before you go to sleep.
